BCC 2025 | Using ctDNA in breast cancer clinical trials

Wolfgang Janni, MD, PhD, University of Ulm, Ulm, Germany, discusses liquid biopsy in breast cancer trials, including the SURVIVE study (NCT05658172) which investigated overall survival (OS) in standard care surveillance compared to intensified surveillance using liquid biopsy. Multiple trials monitor molecular relapse using circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), and patients who display no distant metastasis on imaging are candidates for early-monitoring trials. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
