Vishal Patel, MD, FAAD, FACMS, George Washington University (GW), Washington, DC, discusses the potential of systemic immunotherapy in the treatment of locally advanced cutaneous squamous carcinoma. Dr Patel highlights the need to investigate the efficacy and toxicity profile of combined systemic immunotherapy using dual mechanisms of PD-1 and LAG-3 or PD-1 and CTLA-4 inhibitors, as well as potential adjuvants such as injectable therapies, oncolytic viruses, and immune agonists to improve response rates and bring more patients to a high response level. This interview took place at the 11th World Congress of Melanoma and 21st EADO Congress in Athens, Greece.
