Ramya Ramaswami, MBBS, MPH, National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, comments on a Phase I study (NCT04893018) of efineptakin alfa (NT-I7), a long-acting IL-7, in patients with Kaposi sarcoma, with or without HIV. The trial assessed safety, immune effects, and antitumor activity across dose levels. NT-I7 was well tolerated, with mostly mild adverse events, and showed immune reconstitution via increased CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell counts. Responses were observed only in participants with HIV-associated Kaposi sarcoma, suggesting potential immunotherapeutic benefit in this subgroup. This interview took place during the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
