ASCO 2025 | Neoadjuvant gemcitabine plus cisplatin for resectable BTC in the GAIN trial

Thorsten Goetze, MD, The University Cancer Center Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Germany, discusses the Phase III AIO/CALGP/ACO-GAIN trial (NCT03673072) of neoadjuvant gemcitabine plus cisplatin followed by surgery versus immediate surgery with adjuvant therapy in resectable biliary tract cancer (BTC). Neoadjuvant treatment led to longer overall survival, and mortality rates were lower in the neoadjuvant arm. These findings support a perioperative chemotherapy approach in early-stage biliary tract cancer. This interview took place during the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
