ESMO 2025 | Checkpoint inhibitor use and scoring updates in gastric cancer: NCCN guidance and new approvals
David Ilson, MD, PhD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, discusses the comparability of CPS and TAP scoring in assessing eligibility for checkpoint inhibitor therapy, noting that either method is acceptable and often interchangeable. Dr Illson highlights current NCCN and U.S. regulatory guidance recommending checkpoint inhibitors for patients with a CPS ≥1%, with the greatest benefits seen at higher scores, and recent approval of durvalumab with perioperative chemotherapy in gastric cancer as a major advancement. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2025 Congress in Berlin, Germany.
