Roberto Contieri, MD, Humanitas University, Rozzano, Italy, discusses the association between histological subtypes and the risk of recurrence and metastasis in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC), highlighting that the presence of histological subtypes is linked to worse recurrence-free survival and metastasis-free survival, with micropapillary being one of the most aggressive subtypes. Dr Contieri notes that while the analysis is limited by the small number of patients, the findings support the need for a more intense approach in patients with high-risk UTUC, potentially including adjuvant treatment with new immunotherapies. This interview took place at the 41st Annual EAU Congress in London, UK.
