ASCO 2026 | Werner helicase inhibitors: looking beyond immunotherapy for MSI tumors

Timothy Yap, MBBS, PhD, FRCP, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the development of Werner helicase inhibitors in microsatellite instability high (MSI-H) and mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) tumors. Prof. Yap explores the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with MSI-H or dMMR tumors, the mechanism of action of Werner helicase inhibitors, preclinical data, and trials which are exploring these therapies in patients. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
