ESMO 2026 | PACE-LUNG: osimertinib and ctDNA-guided chemotherapy intensification in EGFRm NSCLC

Martin Sebastian, MD, Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, discusses results from the Phase II PACE-LUNG trial (EudraCT 2019-004757-88), which evaluated adding chemotherapy to osimertinib in patients with EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who had persistent circulating tumor DNA EGFR mutation positivity after three weeks of first-line osimertinib. This biomarker-guided intensification strategy was feasible, with progression-free survival comparing favorably with historical data and no new safety signals. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
