ESMO 2026 | Selective Treg targeting for lung cancer prevention in high-risk patients

James Reading, PhD, University College London, London, UK, discusses the role of regulatory T cells in immunosuppression and their emergence in the pre-invasive phase of cancer. Dr Reading highlights the potential of targeting a specific subset of regulatory T cells with a PI3Kδ inhibitor, roginolisib, which may provide a safer and more selective approach to preventing lung cancer in high-risk patients. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
