Robert Jones, MD, PhD, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, UK, discusses the findings of three abstracts in bladder cancer, including two negative Phase III trials of chemoimmunotherapy in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), with pembrolizumab in KEYNOTE-866 (NCT03924856) and nivolumab in ENERGIZE (NCT03661320), and the Phase 1b TROPHY-U-01 (NCT03547973) trial of a triplet combination of enfortumab vedotin, sacituzumab govitecan and zimberelimab in metastatic disease, which showed a high response rate but significant toxicity. Dr Jones highlights that the negative trials do not change practice and that cisplatin, gemcitabine and durvalumab remains an important standard of care, while the investigation triplet combination requires careful consideration of toxicity management. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
