ASCO 2021 | Prognostic factors and outcomes of cancer patients with COVID-19

Petros Grivas, MD, PhD, University of Washington School of Medicine & Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA, discusses the findings of a retrospective study evaluating outcomes of patients with COVID-19 and cancer, such as the decreased mortality of cancer patients with COVID-19 over time through the pandemic. It is yet to be figured out why this occurred and the factors that caused this result, which is important as outcomes of these patients can be further optimised once reasons are discovered. Real-world data of cancer patients that received the COVID-19 vaccine showed the vaccine was safe and effective for these patients with minimal side effects. The efficacy was also preserved, indicating the importance of COVID-19 vaccination for cancer patients. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2021 Virtual Meeting.
