Academic History

Arpit Rao, MD, is an Associate Professor of Hematology and Oncology and the Chair of the Prostate Cancer Program at the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Center at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Dr Rao gained his MD at the AII India Institute of Medica Sciences, India, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, AR, and his fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM.

Dr Rao has previously served as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota in  Minneapolis, MN; in this role he chaired the GU Oncology Research at the Masonic Comprehensive Cancer Center and was the Director of Quality and Safety for the oncology service line.

Speaking on genitourinary cancers

Dr Rao has led globally recognized research in genitourinary cancer. He has advised the global clinical and translational development programs of abemaciclib and rucaparib in prostate cancer. As well as this, he has served on DSMB for a range of industry-sponsored investigational studies. Dr Rao was the Principal Investigator for the NCI-funded Phase III clinical trial, CASPAR that looked at enzalutamide and rucaparib as a first-line therapy for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
