Academic History
Keith Kerr, BSc, MB ChB, is Honorary Chair of the Department of Pathology at Aberdeen University Medical School & Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and an Honorary Professor at the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, UK. Prof. Kerr completed a BSc in Pathology, an MB ChB and postgraduate training in Pathology at Edinburgh University Medical School and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK. He then obtained both membership and fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists and is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
Prof. Kerr has been a longstanding member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), where he serves as a member of the IASLC Pathology Panel and previously on the Board of Directors. He has received the prestigious Heine H. Hansen Award from IASLC and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and has worked on numerous guideline developments for lung cancer diagnosis and management.
Speaking on thoracic pathology and classification in lung cancer
Prof. Kerr is an expert in thoracic pathology, having worked on guidelines for IASLC, ESMO and the World Health Organization. His research has investigated predictive and diagnostic biomarkers in non-small cell lung cancer and he is internationally recognized for his work establishing PD-L1 immunohistochemistry as a tool for identifying patients suitable for anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy.
