SABCS 2024 | Balancing benefits and risks of anthracycline therapy in breast cancer

Nan Chen, MD, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, comments on the nuanced decision-making process for anthracycline use in early-stage breast cancer. Recurrence scores and other tools should be used assess clinical benefit while considering factors like tumor size and patient-specific risk. However side effects, such as cardiotoxicity and secondary hematologic adverse events, should be considered to create individualized treatment plans that optimize outcomes. This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
