Marc Machaalani, MD, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, discusses findings from three clinical trials, JAVELIN Renal 101 (NCT02684006), SURF (NCT02689167), and NIVOREN (NCT03013335), evaluating soluble MAdCAM-1 as a biomarker in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Elevated baseline levels and early increases in soluble MAdCAM-1 were linked to better progression-free and overall survival. The results highlight a potential role for microbiota-related biomarkers in guiding therapy and optimizing immunotherapy outcomes in RCC. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2025 Congress in Berlin, Germany.
