ASCO GI 2023 | Assessing the rate of ER utilization prior to CRC diagnosis

Afsaneh Barzi, MD, PhD, City of Hope, Duarte, CA, discusses the role of the emergency room (ER) in screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients. Due to racial, socioeconomic, and insurance disparities, people may have reduced access to routine screening, and the aforementioned group of people are more likely to receive a CRC diagnosis once in ER. Implementing a specialized program for this group of patients may consequently increase screening rates. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Gastrointestinal Cancers (GI) Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
