ESMO 2023 | Assessing the safety of pregnancy after breast cancer treatment

Patrick Neven, MD, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, evaluates the risks of conceiving after receiving treatment for breast cancer. Studies have shown that after taking into account certain biases such as the “healthy mother effect”, pregnancy is still safe for patients, even in ER+ breast cancer. Data from the POSITIVE trial (NCT02308085), which incorporated patients from the SOFT (NCT00066690) and TEXT (NCT00066703) trials, demonstrated that birth outcomes were not affected in patients two years after receiving treatment. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2023 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
