BCC 2021 | Mathematical modelling to predict recurrence periods for secondary metastases in breast cancer

Ella Tyuryumina, MSc, BSc, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia, discusses the use of mathematical modeling to detect the recurrence periods for visible secondary distant metastases growth in different subtypes of breast cancer. The CoMPaS model calculates tumor volume doubling time, enabling prediction of when secondary distant metastases may occur. Analyses showed that CoMPaS correctly describes the growth period of the primary tumor and secondary distant metastases, as well as patients’ 1-15 year survival. The model can optimize the process of detecting recurrence periods in different tumor subtypes and enable early treatment for metastases to improve survival. This interview took place during the 17th St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference.
