BTOG 2023 | The benefits of simulations for healthcare professionals and patients with cancer

Asanga Fernando, MA, MRCPsych, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, explains the benefits of using actors in simulations to gain real life perspectives, such asthe cancer, mental health, and end life simulation (CAMhELS). Healthcare professionals have come together to collaborate in order to complete a learning needs analysis exploring difficulties faced on lung cancer pathways. Actors portray certain scenarios which allow professionals to learn and manage challenging scenarios faced in wards. Education is vital for communication between professionals and in advocation for patients, who have limited access or means to manage their health from a holistic standpoint. This interview took place at the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Annual Conference 2023 in Belfast, UK.
