Eva Blondeaux, MD, University of Genova, Genova, Italy, comments on the evaluation of safety and feasibility of breastfeeding after a breast cancer diagnosis, particularly in BRCA carriers. While pregnancy after breast cancer is known to be safe without increasing recurrence risk, specific data on breastfeeding in BRCA carriers is lacking. The analysis aims to address concerns about the potential risk of developing a second primary breast cancer and how to counsel patients who may undergo risk-reducing mastectomy either before or after delivery, providing much-needed guidance for oncologists. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
