PRIMO 2024 | Challenges in treating brain tumors: enhancing drug delivery and targeting infiltrating cells

Glenn Lesser, MD, from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, discusses challenges in treating brain tumors, emphasizing the difficulty of delivering drugs effectively due to the blood-brain barrier. He highlights the importance of targeting infiltrating tumor cells in surrounding brain tissue to prevent recurrence. Prof. Lesser explores various approaches, including convection-enhanced delivery, ultrasound-mediated blood-brain barrier opening, and intratumoral injections, to improve drug delivery to tumor sites. Advancements in technology offer promising strategies to overcome these challenges and enhance treatment efficacy. This interview took place at the 2024 PRIMO meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.
