Miguel Reis Ferreira, FRCR, MD, PhD, Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, explores how microbiome-based interventions could be integrated into clinical radiotherapy practice. In head and neck cancer, research has shown that Streptococcus salivarius strain K12 is positively associated with reduced toxicity. In gastrointestinal cancer, trials are required to evaluate how toxicity outcomes change when the microbiome is edited. This interview took place at the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology 2026 Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
