Wim Ceelen, MD, PhD, Ghent University Hospital, Ghent, Belgium, discusses the challenges of drug delivery in the peritoneal cavity, where the tissue is nearly impermeable to liquid flow, and explores physical methods to enhance drug penetration, including elevated temperature, pressure, and the use of electrical fields, such as electrostatic precipitation during aerosolized drug delivery. Prof. Ceelen highlights the potential of these methods to increase drug delivery to tumor tissue, including the use of computational models, animal models, and clinical studies to investigate their effectiveness. This interview took place at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO 44) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
