EBCC 2024 | Partial and no radiation in elderly patients with breast cancer

Icro Meattini, MD, University of Florence, Florence, Italy, highlights the benefits of limiting radiotherapy in elderly patients with breast cancer. Omitting radiotherapy after breast conserving surgery when possible in elderly patients, despite leading to increased local recurrence, has no effect on specific survival rates. Use of partial breast radiation of the tumor bed in certain elderly patients can also lead to an improved safety profile and a higher quality of life. This interview took place at the 14th European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC) in Milan, Italy.
