SABCS 2024 | Enhancing breast cancer awareness and access to care in rural India

Lopamudra Das Roy, MS, PhD, MBA, Breast Cancer Hub, Charlotte, NC, discusses a study on door-to-door breast cancer screening in rural Assam in India, from February 2020 to April 2024. The study highlights significant barriers to early detection, including a lack of awareness, financial constraints, and cultural practices. Breast Cancer Hub’s grassroots approach, educating people on breast self-examination, providing transportation, and supporting diagnosis and treatment, has improved access to care, offering a sustainable solution to the region’s breast cancer challenges. This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
