GU Cancers 2025 | The evolving role of ctDNA in prognosticating and treating RCC

Chinmay Jani, MBBS, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Doral, FL, comments on advancements in the liquid biopsy landscape for renal cell carcinoma (RCC), as circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is proving to be a powerful tool in identifying patients at risk of progression. Emerging data suggest that ctDNA burden at diagnosis correlates with overall survival, offering critical insights into treatment decisions. While minimal residual disease (MRD) testing is currently FDA-approved for select cancers, ongoing trials aim to refine its role in determining which patients may safely avoid unnecessary treatments. These advancements hold great potential for improving patient outcomes and quality of life. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
