Eric Singhi, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, TX, shares the conclusions of a survey for a patient-friendly clinical trial summary. With input from patient advocates and medical oncologists, an example of a summary was developed and shared with patients with lung cancer. The majority of patients found the example’s format very helpful and reported that the text made the data and goals of treatment understandable. Patients also shared that the summary allowed them to recall the side effects. Dr Singhi suggests these results highlight the importance of communicating with patients, their families and caregivers to facilitate their understanding of lung cancer and their treatment plans. This interview took place at the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Singapore, Singapore.
