GU Cancers 2021 | Vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy

Lucas Nogueira, MD, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, provides an overview of photodynamic therapy and the more recently developed vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy (VTP), a technique being studied for the localized treatment of a number of tumor types, including prostate cancer and upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). VTP incorporating the intravascular photosensitizing agent padeliporfin (WTS11), which results in the reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated disruption of tumor vasculature upon activation by light, has demonstrated preclinical safety and anti-tumor activity. This interview took place during the 2021 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium.
