ESTRO 2026 | IMRT deintensification in early-stage oropharyngeal cancer: insights from the JCOG1208 trial

Satoaki Nakamura, MD, PhD, FJCR, Kansai Medical University, Hirakata, Japan, comments on the five-year results from the JCOG1208 trial (UMIN000014274) evaluating two-step adaptive intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) with reduced dose and minimized prophylactic target volumes in early-stage oropharyngeal cancer. IMRT alone demonstrated good long-term survival and disease control, and no recurrence was seen in the omitted prophylactic regions. This interview took place at the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology 2026 Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
