Satoaki Nakamura, MD, PhD, FJCR, Kansai Medical University, Hirakata, Japan, discusses how HPV status was accounted for in the JCOG1208 trial (UMIN000014274) of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in early-stage oropharyngeal cancer. Dr Nakamura also highlights how the study used the UICC 7th Edition system for staging, and that this should be considered when applying the results to correct HPV-based risk groups or to patients outside of Japan. This interview took place at the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology 2026 Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
