AACR 2025 | ROME: integrating tissue and liquid biopsies in precision oncology

Paolo Marchetti, MD, PhD, IDI-IRCCS, Rome, Italy, discusses an analysis from the ROME trial (NCT04712864), which evaluated the impact of combining tissue and liquid biopsies in identifying actionable alterations in advanced solid tumors. Despite modest concordance between biopsy types, the addition of liquid biopsy significantly improved detection rates. Patients with concordant findings who received tailored therapy experienced better progression-free and overall survival compared to those with discordant results or standard care. These findings emphasize the value of a dual-biopsy approach to optimize precision oncology strategies. This interview took place at American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2025 in Chicago, IL.
