BNOS 2022 | Using the patient generated index over QoL questionnaires in patents with glioma

James Tallant, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, UK, provides an overview of the CaPaBLE study, which sought to assess the utility of a patient – or carer-generated index (PGI/CaGI) in measuring quality of life (QoL) in patients with glioma and their caregivers. Current questionnaires evaluating QoL are often inadequate and do not take into account the needs of caregivers. 36 patients and 26 caregivers completed the PGI/CaGI and the new methods of assessment were found to more accurately reflect the experiences of patients and caregivers. The loss of intimacy and the ability to drive were reported in patients, whereas the loss of social life and general anxiety towards the wellbeing of the patient were reported in caregivers. This interview took place at the British Neuro-Oncology Society (BNOS) Annual Meeting 2022.
