ESMO 2026 | Impact of perioperative treatment on prostate cancer in the PROTEUS trial

Alberto Briganti, MD, Vita-Salute University San Raffaele, Milan, Italy, discusses the significance of the PROTEUS main study and sub-study (NCT03767244), which demonstrated a substantial benefit of preoperative treatment, leading to a shift in guidelines in prostate cancer. These studies are the only ones to show a significant benefit in a Phase III prospective randomized fashion, and thus, a new therapeutic approach can be offered to patients, proven to delay progression and subsequent therapy. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
