SABCS 2023 | Phase II CONFIDENT-B: AI-assistance in detection of breast cancer metastases in sentinel lymph nodes

Carmen van Dooijeweert, MD, PhD, UMC Utrecht, Utrecht, Netherlands, talks on the Phase II CONFIDENT-B trial – a single center, prospective study looking to which extent an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted clinical workflow for the detection of sentinel lymph node metastases reduced immunohistochemistry use, while maintaining current diagnostic safety standards. The study showed that AI-implementation for the detection of sentinel node metastases led to a significant reduction in immunohistochemistry use – with significant cost savings and saving pathologists’ time. The study also reported that patients were not at risk of an inferior diagnosis. This interview took place at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
