AACR 2024 | The effect of hypoxia on lipid metabolism and prostate cancer tumor growth

Teemu Murtola, MD, PhD, University of Tampere, Tampere, Finland, provides an overview of an in vitro study assessing the effects of hypoxia in prostate cancer cells. Hypoxia, which is a common phenomenon in the tumor microenvironment, was more tolerated in cells resistant to enzalutamide, and lipid accumulation was additionally linked to hypoxia, emphasizing the role of lipid metabolism in cancer cells. This interview took place at American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
