ESMO WCGIC 2023 | Improving rectal cancer outcomes with robotic-assisted procedures

Jim Khan, MD, PhD, FRCS, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, Portsmouth, UK, describes future developments in robotic surgery for rectal cancer. There has been great interest in this novel technology in trainee surgeons, and simplified training procedures will enable widespread adoption of robotic surgery. Artificial intelligence (AI) will additionally guide clinicians during surgery, and remote monitoring will be possible as a result of robotic-assisted procedures. This interview took place at the ESMO World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer (WCGIC) 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.
