Alison Birtle, MBBS, MRCP, FRCR, MD, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Preston, UK, discusses the impact of cystectomy on the quality of life (QoL) of patients, including looking at the risk of functional, psychosocial and psychosexual morbidity. Specifically, she highlights some of the research being done to combat the use of the radical procedure and maintain bladder preservation in patients.
