Naomi Farrington, RN, MA, PhD, PgDip, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Southampton, UK, discusses her findings on the investigation the quality of care for patients with dementia undergoing cancer treatment. An ethnographic analysis involving interviews and observations of healthcare staff and patients was carried out and concluded that there were difficulties in delivering safe and effective care to these patients due to their complex needs. A more responsive and flexible approach is needed to provide benefit to caregivers and patients.
