WCLC 2023 | Surgery assessment for patients with locally resectable NSCLC

Akif Turna, MD, PhD, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Istanbul, Turkey, outlines the assessment of patients for locally resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Surgery in select patients with stage IA-IIIA NSCLC demonstrate positive survival rates, demonstrating the need for patients to be assessed before choosing a procedure. The assessment for surgery includes TNM classification, staging, and physiological evaluations. Evaluating patients is currently challenging due to the lack of established guidelines and decision-making criteria. Prof. Turna emphasises the importance of assessing patients with resectable NSCLC thoroughly in order to choose the most appropriate procedure. This interview took place at the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Singapore, Singapore.
