Vernon Sondak, MD, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL, explores the potential of gene expression profile testing to guide sentinel node (SN) biopsy decisions in melanoma. Based on findings the MERLIN_001 trial (NCT04759781), the test can stratify patients into high- or low-risk groups for lymph node metastasis using an eight-gene panel. Dr Sondak additionally highlights the importance of balancing risk, patient preferences, and cost-effectiveness in decision-making is emphasized for optimizing care.
