ESMO GI 2024 | Adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with rectal cancer

Vanessa Wookey, MD, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA, reflects upon the PROSPECT trial (NCT01515787) and the necessity of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with node-negative low rectal cancer (RC). In the Phase II trial (NCT03548961) evaluating organ preservation in node-negative low RC, approximately a third of patients had achieved a complete response (CR), emphasizing patients who need chemotherapy post-surgery should be carefully selected in the clinic. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
