ASCO GI 2026 | Peritoneal carcinomatosis in gastric cancer: challenges with systemic therapy

Maheswari Senthil, MD, University of California, Irvine, CA, discusses peritoneal carcinomatosis, a metastatic manifestation in gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer. Dr Senthil explains why these patients experience the worst survival outcomes among all metastatic patterns and how the blood-peritoneal barrier significantly limits systemic therapy penetration into peritoneal metastases, thereby reducing treatment effectiveness. This interview took place at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
