Karissa Britten, MD, University of California, Los Angeles, CA, comments on the lack of evidence-based guidelines for long-term settings of heart failure risk due to drug resistance in patients with early-stage breast cancer. Lower incidences of heart failure have been witnessed with trastuzumab, but patients who also received anthracyclines were subsequently at higher risk of heart failure. Multidisciplinary efforts could aid in identifying different symptom-based monitoring approaches and social determinants of heart failure risk. This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
