ESMO 2024 | Identifying beneficial subgroups for immunotherapy in BTC using AI tools

Changhoon Yoo, MD, PhD, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, highlights the challenges in using immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) for biliary tract cancer (BTC) due to their high cost and marginal benefit. He emphasizes the need for biomarkers to better stratify patients who will benefit from ICIs. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools are showing promise in identifying subgroups, such as inflamed patients, who demonstrate significant benefit from ICI monotherapy, offering a potential path forward in BTC treatment. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
