ESMO 2024 | Stratifying TNBC by TIL levels to tailor treatment approaches

Sabine Linn, MD, PhD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, provides an overview of a proposed stratification model for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) based on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). High TILs in small, node-negative tumors may indicate favorable prognosis, leading to trials exploring chemotherapy omission for these patients. A middle TIL group could potentially benefit from reduced chemotherapy regimens to limit toxicity. These advancements aim to personalize TNBC management by optimizing treatment intensity based on immune response markers. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
