ASCO GI 2025 | Vaccines and cell therapy for hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer

Bridget Keenan, MD, PhD, UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, San Francisco, CA, reflects on the progress made in vaccines and cell therapy for hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer. Dr Keenan highlights the advancement in vaccine technology, including mRNA and peptide vaccines, and personalized delivery methods, which have shown promise in activating specific immune responses and improving recurrence-free survival in patients. Dr Keenan also discusses the ongoing research in cell therapy, targeting ideal tumor-specific antigens, and various approaches to engineering cells and expanding tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, with the goal of developing effective treatments for these complex cancers. This interview took place at the ASCO GI Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
