EADO 2022 | EU’s beating cancer plan: will it beat occupational skin cancer?

Swen Malte John, MD, PhD, Osnabrück University, Osnabrück, Germany, discusses the EU’s plan to defeat skin cancer. Even though the treatment of keratinocyte carcinoma is not so expensive, there is such a high number of cases that the overall treatment cost amounts to more than all other cancers together and the number of skin cancers cases are further increasing which may overburden physicians. The predominant cause of skin cancer is UV light, and outdoor workers are at twice the risk of getting skin cancer than the average population. The BECA committee of the European parliament has recommended better regulations for outdoor workers be put in place for improved protection against skin cancer. This interview took place at the EADO 2022 congress.
