Daniele Robesti, MD, Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, Milan, Italy, discusses a retrospective, multi-institutional study, which investigated the predictive factors of toxicity for radiation therapy administered within 6 months after radical prostatectomy. 319 patients with prostate cancer were included in this cohort and the RTOG/EORTC scoring system was used to assess severe genitourinary (GU) and gastrointestinal (GI) toxicities. The study concluded that the most significant predictive factor of severe GU and GI toxicities was the time from radical prostatectomy to radiation therapy, and recommends that radiation therapy be delayed if possible in order to reduce the risk of toxicity. Dr Robesti also discusses the limitations of the study and the future directions of this line of research. This interview took place at the American Urological Association annual congress 2022 in New Orleans and online.
