Heinz-Josef Lenz, MD, FACP, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, discussed the introduction of immunotherapy for MSI-H/dMMR metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). He emphasizes that immunotherapy is the best first-line treatment option and highlights the debate between using PD-L1 inhibitors alone or in combination with CTLA-4 inhibitors. Exciting new data presented at the meeting showed that the combination of nivolumab and ipilimumab is a valuable first-line treatment, suggesting that dual immune checkpoint inhibition may be more effective than using PD-L1 or PD-1 inhibitors alone. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
