Marco Fiore, MD, FACS, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano, Milan, Italy, discusses advancements in the surgical management of retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Over recent years, evidence has shown that extended multivisceral resection significantly improves local control and survival outcomes for patients. However, the complexity of these procedures has previously not been standardized, and the disease’s presentation can vary widely throughout the abdominal cavity and pelvis. To address this, Dr Fiore emphasizes the importance of establishing standardized surgical steps, which could enhance training and facilitate global harmonization of treatment approaches. He identifies six reproducible surgical steps for effectively managing retroperitoneal liposarcoma. This interview took place at the ESSO 43 congress in Antwerp, Belgium.
